SparkLab is a STEM enrichment initiative based in the dedicated learning lab at Children’s Museum of Franklin. This collection of continuously evolving programs serves elementary and middle school students with engaging, hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Developed in direct response to educational gaps, SparkLab provides equitable access to high-quality STEM learning opportunities. Through real-world problem-solving and collaborative experimentation, students build critical thinking skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Wonders of Water
Explore the unique properties of water including surface tension, states of matter, and how temperature affects water molecules.
A drop-off program for students in Grades 2-4.
This program runs for four weeks on Mondays (11/2-11/23) from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Ring of Fire
Discover how volcanologists study and monitor volcanoes, then become an engineer and take on the ultimate challenge: design and build a device to safely deliver a "payload" into the “Ring of Fire!”

Dino Dash
Young explorers will put their engineering skills to the test as they design and build their very own dino walkers, then unleash their creativity by creating a dinosaur-themed board game to bring their prehistoric pals to life! Along the way, they'll explore problem-solving, teamwork, and a little dino-inspired art.
The Chem Factory: Cash, Chemistry & Creations!
Welcome to The Chem Factory, where young scientists become chemists AND shoppers! Each scientist will receive a stash of pretend cash to spend on exciting chemistry workshops. Will you choose the stretchy, squishy world of slime or the bubbling, fizzing fun of potions? Learn the science behind each creation, then use your money to purchase the materials and put your chemistry skills to the test!
Shape Shifters
Experiment with geometric shapes, uncover the secrets behind tessellations, and create your own eye-catching patterns.
This program is for students in grades 3–6.
