Code of Conduct
Children’s Museum of Franklin’s mission is to empower children and families to discover, imagine, and grow together through play and exploration. We appreciate your support in helping us uphold this mission. We ask while you are at the Museum or any Museum-related event that you follow our Code of Conduct, which includes treating all Museum visitors, staff, volunteers, contractors and the facility itself with kindness and respect.
Be Kind, Respectful, and Inclusive:
Everyone is welcome at Children’s Museum of Franklin. We ask that you are kind to and inclusive of all visitors of the Museum. Words and actions are powerful when interacting with others and are often mirrored by children. By being kind and respectful, modeling positive behavior, and assuming good intentions of others, we will create a fun, inclusive environment to discover, imagine, and grow together. We ask that you refrain from using offensive, abusive, threatening, or violent language or behavior.
Be Open-minded and Ask Questions
Every person has the right to think independently and have different interests. Additionally, there are many different ways to learn and solve problems. By being open-minded and asking questions, we can learn respectfully from each other.
Museum Policies
Facility
Children’s Museum of Franklin has been thoughtfully designed to provide a warm, welcoming, and inclusive space for all families to learn and grow. We ask that you please be respectful of all Museum facilities, exhibits, and materials.
Risk and Adult Supervision
The Museum asks that children be adequately supervised by responsible adults at all times. Adult supervision by you helps kids make choices that are right for their age and ability. Children are not permitted to enter or leave the Museum without an adult.
Attire
All visitors must wear shirts, bottoms, and shoes at all times. Visitors are recommended to wear comfortable clothing to allow for movement and exploration. Creative play, especially in the MakerSpace, may result in messy clothes, so we ask that you plan accordingly. We ask that you refrain from clothing that displays profane, obscene, or injurious language or graphics.
Stroller Policy
For the comfort and safety of all during our busy Museum days, we ask that families leave larger strollers and wagons at home unless required for transportation to the Museum; smaller strollers are permitted. Stroller parking is available under an awning in our outdoor play zone. We ask that strollers be parked outside and kept out of the exhibit area when possible. Exceptions will be made for any medical or accessibility requirements.
No Smoking or Alcohol
For the health and safety of all Museum visitors, smoking or the possession, selling, or use of any kind of smoking-related product, including but not limited to tobacco, marijuana, vaping, juuling, smokeless tobacco products or any other e-cigarette, is prohibited on Museum grounds, including in the Museum building, in the outdoor play zone, and in the parking lot. The possession, selling, or use of alcohol on Museum grounds is prohibited (with the exception of adult Museum events where a liquor license has been obtained).
No Weapons
No weapons of any kind are allowed on Museum grounds.
No Pets
No pets are allowed on Museum grounds. Service animals are always welcome.
Photography Policy
During your visit you may be photographed and/or videotaped by our staff or local media outlets for marketing purposes. If you prefer not to be, please let Museum staff know at the front desk upon arrival or at any time during your visit. We will be happy to provide you with a “No Photos” sticker for each member of your party so that we know to avoid you with our cameras.
Accessibility
Children’s Museum of Franklin is committed to making our Museum an accessible, inclusive, and safe space for all children and families. If you would like to provide any feedback to the Museum to help improve the accessibility of the Museum, please email meg@childrensmuseumfranklin.org.
Eating and Drinking
Food is not permitted in the exhibit area of the Museum. Food can be consumed in the classroom when not being used for a program, in the lobby, or in the outdoor play zone. Water, milk and formula are permitted in all space. Please note that Children’s Museum of Franklin is not a nut-free facility.
Infant Feeding/Nursing
Infant feeding/Nursing is welcome in all areas of the Museum. Should you want some privacy while feeding, the Museum has two semi-private baby feeding nooks with feeding chairs and half walls. If you need any support in utilizing these areas, please see Museum staff for assistance.
Unaccompanied Adults
We ask that any adult who wishes to visit the Museum without a child leave a photo ID with Museum staff at the front desk upon arrival.
Cleaning
Museum exhibits and materials are cleaned and disinfected with CDC-recommended products. Throughout the exhibit spaces, there are bins for toys that have gone into children’s mouths. All toys placed into the bins will be cleaned and disinfected before being returned to the exhibit area.
